From cotton fields to global fashion floors
Uzbekistan is charting an ambitious new path for its textile industry, positioning foreign investment as the engine for long term transformation. With a target of more than two billion dollars in overseas capital, the country aims to modernize manufacturing, expand export reach, and strengthen its standing in global textile trade. A recent review led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted strong momentum in the sector, with 2025 marking a year of robust production, rising exports, and growing investor confidence. The industry already supports over six hundred thousand jobs, underlining its role as both an economic pillar and a social anchor.
The vision for the coming year goes beyond scale alone. Authorities are pushing for deeper processing of cotton Fiber, shifting the focus from raw material supply to high value fabrics, knitwear, and finished garments. This transition reflects a clear intent to move up the value chain, where margins are stronger and global demand is more resilient. New capacities in yarn, fabric production, garment making, and textile dyeing are expected to redefine the industrial landscape and stimulate fresh employment opportunities.
From volume growth to value leadership
Alongside expansion, policymakers are confronting long standing structural challenges. Partial reliance on cotton imports, rising logistics costs, and shortages of skilled workers remain pressure points. To counter these, the government plans targeted financial support, enterprise restructuring, and wider export participation. Preferential loans and focused reforms are designed to ease financial strain while encouraging efficiency and competitiveness.
Sustainability and credibility are also taking center stage. Adoption of international labor, sourcing, and reporting standards is set to grow, reinforcing trust among global buyers. Investments in modern testing laboratories will strengthen quality assurance, while digital tools such as ERP systems and artificial intelligence are expected to reshape factory management and productivity.
International cooperation forms another key pillar of the strategy. By engaging in sourcing partnerships, global exhibitions, and foreign production relocations, Uzbekistan is opening its doors wider to the world. With clear policy backing and a strong execution roadmap, the textile sector is being reshaped into a high value, export driven ecosystem that blends scale with sophistication and positions the country as a serious global contender.
